Sustainable/Green Building Acoustic Design
Although sustainable green building certifications are not mandatory systems, the rate of consideration of these certifications in national and international platforms is increasing. The reason for this is that ecological and economic conditions are turning into “voluntary imperatives” for buildings. Acoustic design criteria in sustainable buildings are also included in the content of certifications in order to improve the auditory comfort of users, and even defined as a prerequisite for certification in some typologies. For example, in LEED certification, schools are within this scope.
Acoustic requirements put forward by international green building councils in their own certifications (LEED, BREEAM, WELL, DGNB, etc.) are generally based on building codes and regulations in force in their own countries. However, when acoustic design is considered holistically, it is more valid to consider green building acoustic design only as a "section" within the scope of acoustic comfort conditions that must be provided for users, since the typologies of buildings included in the scope of each certification system vary and the acoustic requirements defined in these certifications are different. approach will be. In this context, studies should be carried out to fulfill the other requirements of optimum acoustic design for green buildings, based on regulations and other necessary acoustic standards.
As MEA Acoustic Consulting, we provide the following services in the context of acoustic consultancy for projects that aim for international green building certification such as LEED, BREEAM, WELL, DGNB:
- Determination of acoustic design targets suitable for energy efficiency specific to the project
- ion of acoustic products suitable for green building requirements during the design process
- Carrying out studies to obtain all acoustic credit scores that require and/or do not require prerequisites according to the targeted green building certification degree.
- Creating acoustic calculation and simulation reports in formats required by certification systems
- Development of viable and cost-effective system detail solutions
- Checking the shop drawings
- Conducting field application controls
- Performing and reporting acoustic field measurements to determine whether the acoustic environment required by the certification systems is provided with professional equipment after the application
